One SpiritSaturday, September 29, 6:30 pm at 1934 Cultra Avenue, Saanichton — The Victoria Multifaith Society and the Victoria Hindu Parishad and Cultural Center will again present the music-filled devotional evening One Spirit, Celebrating our Faiths Together, at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 1934 Cultra Avenue, Saanichton. The arts-based presentations of prayers, chants and music will be followed by an Indian meal and time to socialize. All are welcome!

Interfaith Liaisons Network (ILN)

Can you represent your congregation or spiritual community once a month, to share news, occasionally host and/or give a presentation on a teaching or your spiritual journey? You’re very welcome to come for a “test run”. The meetings are short and sweet! The first one for this season will be at the normal time, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. This month will be hosted by Beth Gibson of the First Church of Christ Scientist, 1205 Pandora St. (Parking lot off Chambers.)

 

This meeting includes:

  •         Shared teaching: by host.
  •         Consultation: VMS (Victoria Multifaith Society) has decided to open one board seat from a faith community not currently represented and is requesting nominations from ILN members. More info provided at the meeting.
  •         Notice: Our Place Society is seeking persons of faith to act as spiritual care workers.
  •         Discussion: intention to move these meeting to a different time of day, noon or evening, to accommodate those who work.Please send feedback on this topic, especially if you are not able to attend this meeting.
  •         Guests: from our own communities and from other spiritual communities.
  •         Enriching inter-faith dialogue & learning, announcements, consultation and socializing!

 

World Partnership Walk

World Partnership WalkSunday, May 27 — The Victoria Multifaith Society is once again supporting the World Partnership Walk which will be held on Sunday, May 27 starting in the Courtyard, McPherson Library, University of Victoria (free parking Sundays) –  Registration at  9:30 am; Opening Ceremonies 10:30 am; Asian Heritage Celebrations & Food Bazaar at 12:00 pm.

The World Partnership Walk is Canada’s largest annual event dedicated to raising funds and increasing awareness to fight global poverty.  The Walk is organized by volunteers in ten cities across Canada, and attracts tens of thousands of Canadians united in a common effort to bring hope and renewal to some of the poorest communities in the world. The money raised will support AKFC programs in Africa and Asia, enabling families and communities to lift themselves out of poverty through access to quality education, life-saving health services, food security and improved livelihoods.

Creating our Future

WIF HarmonySunday, February 4, 2018 1:00 pm (David Lam Auditorium UVic) Creating our Future is co-sponsored by UVic Multifaith Services and Victoria Multifaith Society in honor of UN World Interfaith Harmony Week 2018 and the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Panelists from 8 spiritual traditions will give succinct 7-minute presentations on the question: “What teachings from your tradition can help to guide our vision of a sustainable and compassionate world?” followed by a 20-minute Q & A period. Interspersed throughout the program will be storytelling, song, and displays, with an opportunity for mingling and refreshments at the end. All are welcome.

Saturday, July 22 9:00 – 11:00 am

Meditation with a whiff of Zen is the second in the series, Travel the World’s Religions, sponsored by the Victoria Multifaith Society (VMS), and designed to create opportunities for people to familiarize themselves with other faiths, mingle with people of other religions and feel comfortable and welcome within each space.

Wayne Codling—a former Zen monastic and a lineage holder in the Soto Zen tradition—will provide a short talk and opportunity for discussion and Q&A. There will be short seated and walking meditation followed by tea, light refreshments and socializing/sharing time.

The venue for this event is 2033 Belmont St. Victoria (corner of Pembroke and Belmont). There is plenty of parking at the rear and in the street.
