Emanu-El Picnic Wrap-Up

IMG_8298 1000A group of nearly 50 congregants gathered on Ingrid Friesen’s beautiful Saanich farm on Sunday, July 12, 2020 for a picnic and a  wonderful face-to-face encounter. We enjoyed delicious central American food provided by Congregation Emanu-El’s own Benjamin de la Vega and family through his catering company, Pinto Xpress. While ensuring that social distancing was maintained we particpated in some very fun Latin dance lessons from Benjamin and his daughter Ariel! We all enjoyed getting to see each other in person. Our membership committee hopes to hold other similar events in the future! (For photos by Frances Rosenberg…)

Synagogue Software Change Alert

Change AheadOn August 1, 2019, we initiated the movement of our synagogue data from one software system to another, a change precipitated by the buyout of our existing provider. We are presently verifying the data transfer.

Along with the change to our synagogue information management system, we were forced to change the system that we use for processing credit card and other direct payments.

What will this mean for the community? For a short period we will remove the online donation ability, i.e., until we can make all the necessary changes. We will set up the recurring monthly membership payments by electronic file transfer (EFT) and credit card in a new system which may result in slight changes to your account statement.

It is my hope that most of the changes will happen behind the scenes and proceed seamlessly. I provide you with this information so that you will be aware that these changes are occurring should you encounter something unusual in this regard. To facilitate the mentioned changes, online donations are unavailable presently; I will let you know when they are available again.

Thank you for your understanding,
Ellen Dragushan, Treasurer

Our “Adopt a Family” Campaign

We again are embarking on a crucial venture — the Adopt a Family Fundraising initiative.

Many of our families and individual congregants are affected and not able to afford paying the full suggested membership rate and/or Hebrew School fees. No Jewish person is ever turned away from being a member in our congregation or child turned away from Hebrew School due to finances.

If you value Jewish life, Jewish learning and Jewish spiritual expression; If you value an egalitarian congregation that allows for equal access for all Jews; If you value your spiritual home here at Congregation Emanu-El, we need you to step up right now and join us in the Adopt a Family fund raising initiative. Help the congregation and help congregants. Put your values into action now.
Your gift touches many lives.

You may contribute via our website, or tel. the office (250) 382-0615 during regular business hours, Tuesday – Thursday 9:30 am – 2:30 pm. We accept Visa, Master Card, cheques and direct debit.

Betodah Merosh. On behalf of your synagogue, we thank you in advance.
