JFSVI requests gift card donations for Ḥanukkah 2019

JFSVI LogoDeadline December 15, 2019 — Every year Jewish Family Services of Vancouver Island (JFSVI) runs Ḥanukkah gift donations and food drives, hand delivering gift baskets to over 40 families and individuals in our community who are struggling. Currently our client list is growing primarily due to the high cost of living in the Victoria area. This year we are promoting Gift Card donations by multiples of $18 (ḥay).

We serve several families with children under the age of 12. In lieu of donating specific food items this season and to give our clients back a sense of autonomy and dignity, we would like to encourage you to donate a grocery gift card from one of our partners: Thrifty’s, Country Grocer, and Cobs Bread.

For general household goods and gifts for families and children over the holidays we encourage donations of gift cards to places like The Bay, Toys R Us, Bed Bath and Beyond, Staples, or Monk Office, and others.

Please consider donating this year. Your contribution will make a difference in someone’s life. We will be accepting donations to the Ḥanukkah gift drive until December 15, 2019.

You may put your Ḥanukkah gift cards in a sealed envelope marked JFSVI and deposit them in the mail slot located near the front doors of the Jewish Community Centre, 3636 Shelbourne St. Or you may drop off gift cards anytime the JCC is open (Tues – Fri 11:30-1:30 pm). There is a large yellow envelope at the front desk marked JFS.
