IOOF remembers Jewish pioneer members

IOOF In Memoriam

On Sunday, July 28, 2019 the Victoria Chapter of the International Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) attended the Jewish Cemetery in a ceremony marking the bicentenary of the IOOF establishment in North America. At 2 pm three IOOF members were greeted at the Jewish Cemetery by Rick Kool, Geoffry Perkins and Amber Woods. As part of their celebration they revived the long abandoned custom of remembering members who have passed on by placing memorial flags at their graves.
Flags were placed at the graves of Frederick Landsberg, Frank Sylvester, Joseph Davies, JP Davies, Herman Schultz, H.E. Levy, Lewis Lewis and Isaac Herman. Once at the grave, the Lodge number, if known, was given and Amber provided a short biography of each man and then a flag was placed. The flags will be removed on August 18, 2019. Similar ceremonies were held on that day in other local graveyards.
