On October 22 from noon to 2:30 pm in the St. John the Divine Anglican Church Hall at 925 Balmoral Street, Congregation Emanu-El, the Community of St. John the Divine and Greater Victoria Acting Together (GVAT) will host a KAIROS Blanket Exercise Workshop.
The Blanket Exercise is based on participatory popular education methodology and the goal is to build understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance. Everyone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy. Experienced facilitators from KAIROS lead the exercise.
♦ Gather with a bag lunch at 12 pm. Workshop begins at 12:30 pm.
♦ There is no charge for the workshop.
♦ For more information contact Peggy Wilmot by phone at 250-592-2320 or by email.
